So what happened?
One of the two EC3 connectors was damaged. The pin had slipped back in the blue plastic case, and didn't make proper contact anymore. I had even noticed that it came off easier than the other one, but never paid attention.
The bad contact caused it to get hot, melting the tin both on the LiPo and the ESC side. Both wires came out, splashing molten tin over the heli.
The 550 dropped like a rock. Big splash little heli.
My shoes went straight to the washing machine and are almost dry now.
Damage: one ball link, two servo horns.
