Wagging tail - T-Rex 600 is happy
« : 21 Marraskuu, 2009, 18:38:31 »
I just found this on another forum - you live and learn (hasn't happened to me, though).
Apparently, on some T-Rexes it is possible to insert the tail boom too far into the frame and the tail assembly.
As a result, the umbrella gears push the torque tube, and it doesn't run straight. This results in bad gyro karma.
What can you do? Leave a tiny little bit of space.

On the other hand the 700 has too much backlash even though the tail is assembled correctly. Some had even stripped the umbrella gear in flight because of it.

As much as I love bashing Align... after the Outrage 550 experience you realize that Align actually gets most things right.
Imagine stock belts that break after 30 flights, wrapping around the main gear, killing headspeed instantaneously and dropping the heli like a rock.
Then an upgraded belt, solving the problem. Which is, after a month, quietly sourced from a new manufacturer. Result, the expensive upgrade belt breaks five seconds into its second flight. And the newer kits apparently still get shipped with the cr*ppy original belt, although everybody but a new owner knows about the problem ("selling spares part 1: creating need...").
Hideously expensive CNC-machined Delrin main gears, only when you look at them closely you realize they are moulded and you can buy them officially as moulded gears for 1/6 the price straight from US. "Upgraded" tail pulley assemblys that turn out to be identical to the wobbly stock one.
Sorry, accident at the factory, they got mixed up. They look so much alike. One is black, one is white. Yeah yeah.
Outrage bashing, anybody?  ;D

I agree, Align helis go together pretty easily and don't require much of tweaking.
