I have the TT .50 engine in my Raptor. It has run through maybe 3/4 gallon of fuel, so it's still in breaking-in phase.
It's not possible to run it as rich as I'd like, because then the engine stalls and dies.
Also, with a cold engine I need to keep on the glow plug starter for quite a long time, and engine RPM drops when I remove it. The fuel is 15 % nitro (should have bought higher nitro content but this is what I've got now).
The book says, use hotter plug for breaking in, and colder plug for less nitro.
I guess that means for me I should try a hotter glow plug. Does that make sense? Currently it's OS #8.

It seems that this breaking in one of those most argued things all "mens" hobbies (In cars, motorbikes, RC). Some do it veeeeery thoroughly and some only couple of thanks on the rich side and then starting to leaning it gradually. I think you should monitor the temp of the engine. I just happened to buy an temperature meter which I can bring today to Henttaa. So if the temp is too high then richer. I think you should avoid high pitch climbs which put lots of load to engine. So try to stay with boring stuff  . But you already know this.

I could imagine that the problem with this plug is that new engine is tight. So it is running that well when its cold because of heat expansion/fitting of cylinder and piston and maybe even ignition timing (as it is colder). Buying hotter plug is one option, but atleast Jaska t was yeasterday buying OS 8 plugs and he is using TT engine, so they most likely work with his engine.

OK, thanks for your comments! Yes, I haven't been too paranoid about breaking in procedure. For example, in no way would I invest in a gallon of fuel just to break in this cheap motor. I consider it sort of "semi-disposable", it's my first nitro engine, where I am allowed to make stupid beginner mistakes. But if it works, I'll fly it for a while, it seems to be quite fuel efficient (Joni already commented that it must be too lean since it eats so little fuel, but the needle setting seems to be on the edge where it works at all).
My main concern is that it drops out in flight, my autos are still a bit flaky, as proven on Sunday. Also, there is still too much water in Hentta 
Buying a better motor would be within the budget, absolutely no hesitation if I don't get the stock motor set up so that it's reliable. But, otherwise do I really need it? There is quite a bit of "smooth flying" that I plan to learn, before going into the "edgy" 3D territory where power is a must. And the less fuel it consumes (and the cheaper fuel), the more I'll fly it.

I'm planning to show up in Hentta today 17.30 (maybe a bit later, depending on traffic). Joni, if you could have a look, that would be great!
Most of the other issues you mentioned have been fixed, if I didn't overlook anything.

Tulen varmaan kanssa paikalle. Sää vaikuttaa huonolta. Olin juuri Hyvinkäällä ja siellä alkoi puolen päivän jälkeen satamaa vuorotellen vettä/räntää/rakeita.
