Snakes exercise

A snake (forwards or backwards) consists of an upright half-circle, joined by an inverted half circle, joined by an upright half-circle and so on.
The main challenge is as follows:
  • The transitions (inverted to upright, upright to inverted) are already quite challenging under the best of circumstances
  • They get impossibly difficult, if the previous half-circle hasn't "stabilized" from the earlier transition. It all happens too quickly.
Solution? Simple:
Instead of half circles, use one-and a half circles for your snake, as an exercise. Focus on entering and executing the transitions cleanly.
Snakes preparation exercise: Fly one-and-a-half circles instead of the usual half circle per segment.

one-and-a-half circle snake, starting with an upright right turn away from the pilot

Another snake exercise

Flying tight circles is difficult - the move tends to get too big.
Here is an exercise to learn tighter circles:
Snake preparation exercise: For each segment, fly multiple circles instead of the usual half circle per segment. Pull the circles as tight as possible before a sudden transition into the next segment
mouse over the boxes below!
multiple-circle snake, pulling the circles tight, starting with an upright right turn away from the pilot

Vertical tic-tocking circle

Practise the transition of each "hour" on the clock face to the adjacent "hour", both directions, and via positive / negative collective pitch.
Insert a number of stationary tictocs every time, so that you start from a stabilized heli.
Pay attention to rudder during the transition.
