Making the most of the simulator
We've all got a sim, but some people
use it more efficiently than others.
One problem is that there aren't any instructions what to do with it.
Total freedom is great, unless I get lost.
The intention with this site is somehow to act as "the missing manual",
giving some ideas how to use your sim time the most efficiently.
How realistic is the sim?
(The second-most popular topic on
every heli forum, right after "Spektrum or
Futaba")
Probably everybody has an opinion.
Here is mine:
- The sim (Phoenix) is very
realistic, if used correctly.
- With default settings, it feels a bit artificial, making it
easier.
- This is just fine with me. If I can't fly it with the ideal heli
in the sim, I can't fly it in reality.
- Treat the sim like "another heli". Yes, it feels a bit different.
But so do for example two different-sized helis in reality.
- For some people (a common observation in multiplayer), the number
one challenge is "not to crash". In this sense the sim is totally
unrealistic (obviously), because it doesn't tear a hole into my wallet
with every mistake. If I can do crazy stuff for six seconds before
crashing, and call it 3D, I'm fooling myself.
